Monster Holiday

So I started a sculpture for a character in a short story I wrote. The character is a boy named Josh. The concept if by my talented friend Gary Clair.
I'm going to post some images as I go, so far I've finished the armature.

I started with some 1/16th armature wire and bent it overtop a to-scale printout of the character. Then I wrapped the 1/16th wire with a smaller 3/16th wire. (In hindsight I probably should have finished bending the pose completely before wrapping the with the smaller wire, altho it didn't really matter).

I decided to change the pose alittle from the drawing and have his hands forward like he is really scared. So I bent the elbows.

After I posed the body wires I added smaller brass wires for the fingers. I rolled out the loops for the fingers and twisted each finger wire so it was stronger.

Then I added some propoxy to the torso to strengthen it up. Then Once it dried I drilled a hole through it so I have the ability to attach/detach the head as I'm sculpting. Some people use brass tubing for this part, I went for the simpler way and just drilled the damn thing.

Lastly you can drill holes in the wooden base and mix up some clear epoxy and bond it to the base. Now I'm finally ready to add some sculpey to this thing!

to be continued......
